What should I wear to my sessions?
Pilates is performed in either socks are barefeet. Clients should wear comfortable clothing that isn't too baggy. This allows the trainer to see how your body moves and be able to correct your form.
How long are classes?
All classes are 55 minutes in length.
How often do I need to do Pilates to see results?
It is recommended that Pilates is practiced 2-3 times a week in order to see results.
When will I notice results?
As quoted by Joseph Pilates: "In 10 classes you will feel the difference, In 20 classes you will see the difference, and in 30 classes you will have a whole new body." It is also important to maintain a proper diet and engage in other activities such as cardio.
If I am new to the studio do I have to complete a first time introduction?
No, but it is strongly recommended. The introduction session allows a new client to work one on one with a trainer and discuss their goals and needs. If a client has injuries or chronic pain it is important to understand modifications and the fundamental principles of the method before joining a class.
What is the difference between matwork and equipment work?
Both matwork and equipment work follow the same fundamental principles. In matwork, your main resistance is the weight of your own body and supporting that while performing a wide variety of exercises. When working with equipment you will work against the weight of springs for resistance and stability. The equipment helps assist people to accomplish some of the exercises, therefore, many people will find that matwork is more challenging. The equipment is most beneficial with clients that might experience chronic back pain or have other physical limitations. If a client is physically capable of doing both matwork and equipment it is recommended that both systems are used for maximum results.
Do I need an appointment to attend classes or can I drop in?
A client needs to make an appointment for all Private sessions and Equipment classes (preferrably 24 hours before class time) due to limited space. Matwork and barre/mat classes are drop in but is strongly suggested that clients sign up for these classes. The trainer will not show up to teach a class unless there is enough interest and commitment from clients and these classes are subject to be cancelled. For clients that prefer a consistant schedule we offer standing appointments.
What is a standing appointment?
A standing appointment is offered to clients that have packages and prefer to have appointments on a specific day and at a specific time every week. This allows the client to have a consistant workout schedule and insures a spot in a specific class of their choice. It is the clients responsibility to cancel their appointments according to the 24 hour cancellation policy if they will be unable to attend at their normal time. Please note that standing appointments are for clients that plan to be faithful to their Pilates practice on a weekly basis. In the event that a client repeatly cancels or abuses their standing, future standing appointments maybe subject to be cancelled if another client is waiting for that appointment. Many times there is a waiting list for prime time slots and it is important to make sure that all clients have the opportunity to come in at their preferred time.
Can I do Pilates if I am pregnant?
If a client gets pregnant and has been doing Pilates before conception they can continue to do Pilates while following workout guidelines that are recommended by their doctor. If you have never done Pilates before and are pregnant it is strongly recommended NOT to begin Pilates because the intense, deep abdominal work can be harmful to the fetus.
